Cornerstone Design Projects for Civil Engineering Students: from Digital to Physical Models
黃尹男 教授 (臺大土木系)
Since Fall 2010, NTU civil engineering students try their hands at conceptual design starting the first semester of their first year. After an early exposure to design thinking via cases studies of famous engineering projects, they work in small groups to produce a design of their own, transform it into a three-dimensional digital model, and present it during a poster exhibit. For the second edition of the course in the Fall of 2011, students designed outdoor stages for a campus performance arts festival. In the Spring semester, first year students then construct functional scale models of their designs. In the Spring 2012, students designed outdoor performance venues including stage, audience roof, and lighting system. The talk will present this experience and draw some lessons for future editions of the courses.
