Capstone Design Projects for Civil Engineering Students:Design for Real Sites
卡艾瑋 教授 (臺大土木系)
Before they graduate with their Bachelor degree, students in civil engineering are encouraged to test their acquired knowledge in a capstone design project. Students work in teams during a full semester to address a realistic design challenge, for the conditions of a specific site. For one of the capstones offered in the Spring 2012, student teams designed flood monitoring bridges for various sites across the Laonong River, Southern Taiwan. To characterize the bridge sites, they conducted a three days site survey. They then designed and constructed aluminum bridges at reduced scale, and implanted them into a scale model of the Laonong River. The talk will present this experience and what students and teachers have learned from it.
